“Spectacular! We just love Jonny’s documentary style. If you love photos that make you laugh, cry and laugh again then Jonny is for you..”
Shivina & Nick spent a month touring around India, travelling by plane, boat, train and some crazy-ass car journeys. An abundance of breathtaking scenic spots to pop the question, Nick eventually settled on one beautiful resort in Goa. The beachfront dining in a private cabana on St Valentine’s Day turned out to be the perfect moment. Let’s fast forward to their wedding days. Yes, plural intended! A two day extravaganza of feasting, colour and craziness. If you’ve never been to a Indian wedding you haven’t lived.

From the start we agreed that lots of open space and a rustic, natural setting was important to both of us. We also wanted to find the perfect balance between both our cultures. This led us to plan a fusion style wedding day, in a quintessential English setting. The colour scheme on the wedding day was important to us as we wanted to keep a very natural feel, with lots of green and white tones. The lead up celebrations were in keeping with our Indian traditions with lots of bright, colours. The theme was also rustic with lots of oak, birch and greenery forming the basis of the decor. As we walked through the venue we were greeted by handcrafted Oak signs and apple crates. These guided our guests to our ceremony on the beautiful lake at Micklefield Hall.

We met Jonny prior to the day for an engagement shoot, which we highly recommend. Having a coffee with him made us feel at ease and then we slowly became use to being in front of the camera. Jonny is such a friendly guy and put us at ease straight away. On the day, Jonny blended in with the guests, we never knew he was out there taking photographs; which is exactly what we wanted. We also had so many compliments from our guest saying how good he was and how friendly he was with everyone which speaks for itself. The final outcome was spectacular.
We want to say Jonny is worth every penny and more. His eye for detail is impeccable. His skills not only capture the memories of your day but the details you may not have noticed. If you love candid style photos that will make you laugh, smile and trigger happy memories then Jonny is for you.

The moment we drove through the wrought iron gates and up the tree lined, gravel drive we instantly envisaged our Micklefield Hall wedding photos. We walked through into the courtyard, water running through the fountains. Then through the herbaceous lined isle to the lake and alter, everything we had seen was perfect and beautiful. It wasn’t until we were standing on the upper lawn, looking across the views that we just knew this was the spot for our wedding. Our love for buildings and the match of a country estate with an 18th century barn, suitable to cater for our guests ticked all the boxes.
Traditional Indian Wedding Dress
I was after something which would represent both the English (white dress) and Indian (Red Lengha) tradition. From the beginning I had my heart set on getting a white Lengha as a cross between the two styles. When I tried on my outfit for the first time I just knew it was right. It was an Ivory Lengha full of beautiful but subtle embroidery. I also found the perfect shoes from Charlotte Mills which had a beautiful message engraved on the sole. For Nick we tried lots of different styles to suit our theme and finally decided on a contemporary yet elegant English three-piece. Dark navy, with a light check pattern and a cravat to match the bridesmaids.
During our trip in India, we stumbled across a wedding. There was a girl wearing a beautiful Lengha which stuck in our minds. It would be perfect for the bridesmaids. After months of searching for something similar, we gave up and decided to design the outfits ourselves. Shivina’s parents were on holiday in India so we used this as an opportunity to get the designs made out there. It was a risk but massively paid off as the outfits were beautiful and one of a kind.
Wedding Day Advice
However much time you have, don’t waste it. Break your list down and try and tackle one thing at a time. On the day, just go with it. Enjoy every moment and don’t worry about the things that don’t go to plan (there will always be something). Make sure on the day you take a moment to step back and take it all in. Soak up all of it and remember that all of the guests and happiness is there for you.
Decor, food, drinks etc. are all gone in a flash. Photos are there for life. We had no doubt that allocating a good amount of the budget to photography was the most important thing. Looking back it was definitely worth it as our incredible pictures are a memory we can keep forever.
