A Heartfelt Autumn Celebration at Hampton Manor
Sarah and John first met back in 2008 while studying at Exeter University. What began as a great friendship slowly developed into something more, and by the time university finished, their romance had well and truly blossomed. Years later, during early 2017, John broke his ankle and required surgery, which meant a period of recovery, and plenty of caring and support from Sarah.
As a thank you, John planned a surprise weekend away for Sarah. What she didn’t realise was that the destination was the beautiful Gidleigh Park in Devon. It was there, surrounded by the calm of the countryside, that John proposed. The following year, they chose to celebrate their wedding with family and friends at Hampton Manor in Solihull.
“Food and drink is the glue that holds us together,” Sarah explained, so it was no surprise that this was high on their list of priorities. Hampton Manor suited them perfectly, with its reputation for exceptional food and a relaxed but elegant atmosphere. Music played a big role throughout the day too, with entertainment provided by the Piano Man. Guests requested songs using post-it notes, which meant the dancefloor was busy from early on, even during dinner.
An autumn wedding was the perfect fit for Sarah and John. The rich seasonal colours and cosy feel added to the warmth of the day, and the setting at Hampton Manor complemented that beautifully. From their first meeting with the venue’s wedding coordinator, they felt completely at ease, confident their plans were in safe hands.
When it came to photography, Sarah and John wanted someone who would blend into the day and focus on real moments rather than spending hours on posed portraits. After discovering my documentary approach and chatting through their plans on an initial call, we knew we were a great fit, allowing their day to unfold naturally, just as they’d hoped.
Jenny Packham Wedding Dress
Coco and Kate, a boutique wedding dress stockist based in Hatton is where I found the dress. It was the second shop I visited and from the moment I tried it on I fell in love with the dress. A dress of two halves; beautiful beading and sequins on the top half, balanced out by a slim chiffon skirt. Then and there I realised it was the dress of my dreams! It fitted perfectly with the autumn wedding and meant it would sparkle as the evening drew in. After sleeeping on it, the next day the order was placed!
John purchased his suit from Yardsmen in London. He had always wanted a classic navy three-piece, and they delivered exactly that! The bridesmaids wore navy Ghost dresses, all the same colour but in different styles. We went dress shopping together, making sure they felt comfortable in the dresses we chose. Given it was an autumn wedding, everyone agreed that navy would be perfect.
When planning your wedding, enjoy the process and try not to get caught up in the smaller details. Those minor elements often feel important before the day, but they fade into the background once the celebration begins. You’ll focus far more on friends, family, and, most importantly, having the time of your life! Weather is always a worry, but apart from a brief shower, we enjoyed crisp, beautiful autumn weather, the perfect backdrop for an amazing day!
